Neðstikaupstaður

In the area of Ísafjörður known as Neðstikaupstaður stands the oldest cluster of buildings in Iceland, dating from the latter half of the eighteenth century. Several of these buildings are home to the Westfjords Heritage Museum, housing not only the museum's exhibitions but also storage facilities and offices.

Tjöruhúsið is home to a popular restaurant, while other buildings have either disappeared over time or remain buried, awaiting excavation and archaeological investigation.
