Basic exhibition in the Tower House

In 2026, the basic exhibition in the Tower House was partially renovated on the first floor of the building, where you can see artifacts related to the development of Ísafjörður as a market town.

The tower house was built in 1784 and the exhibition there is based on the development of Ísafjörður as a fishing village. The ground floor discusses modern Ísafjörður, which was built in the early 20th century, and contains stories of town life, the labor movement, the surrounding areas, and the boats that transported goods and innovations.

The second floor explores the impact of growth between the 1950s and 1970s, a period marked by increased catches, technological advances, and the expansion of fishing grounds. On one side, you can see original furnishings, including kitchen utensils, children's toys, and everyday objects that bring to life mid-20th-century domestic life. On the other side, you can learn about the various industries that drove the town's economy.

On the top floor are models of boats from the area along with accordions that filled their cabins with music.
